APPOINT LAW OFFICERS WITHIN SIX WEEKS: MADRAS HC

Madurai bench of Madras HC today disposed of a PIL filed by R. Rajaselvan with a hope that Tamil Nadu will fill the vacant post of law officers within six weeks.

The petitioner in his petition seeks for direction to the state to appoint the government advocates to fill up the existing vacancies of government advocate in both civil and criminal side in Madurai bench of Madras HC.

In reply Advocate General submitted before the court that the government has constituted a committee comprising the principal secretaries to the government from public department, Home department and Law department for appointing law officers. This committee will headed by the Advocate General.

The bench comprises of Justice KK Saridharan and Justice GR Swaminathan said

“Since the government has already taken action for appointment of law officers, there is no need for adjudication of the issue raised by the petitioner. We hope and trust that the government would keep up the time schedule and the appointment would be made as expeditiously as possible and in any case, within a period of six weeks from today.”
